If there's a big shift in players abandoning their plans, we will have to abort this initiative and go back to our premium rate. We also make the game more accessible to many more people. Disney immediately began to divest itself of the newspapers acquired in the merger, with the Democrat-Herald sold to Lee Enterprises of Davenport, Iowa in 1998 - a media company which already owned the Corvallis Gazette-Times, located approximately 10 miles away. So-called CapCities would purchase the American Broadcast Company (ABC) in 1985, only to themselves be acquired in 1996 by the Walt Disney Company. Late in the 1970s, the Democrat-Herald moved from individual to corporate ownership, when media giant Capital Cities purchased the paper from Grant Jackson's heirs. It would be this pair who owned the merged publication from its establishment in 1925, with ownership passing to William Jackson's son, Grant Jackson, following his father's death. For about six weeks the title Albany Democrat & Albany Herald was clumsily used, with a change made to the current moniker, Albany Democrat-Herald, in the middle of April 1925. The dual partisan newspapers battled for market share for nearly half a century until on February 24, 1925, the dominant Albany Democrat absorbed its younger rival. In 1879, a rival Republican newspaper was launched in Albany by William Gladstone Steel, the Albany Herald. This name remained in place for six years, until the 1888 move of the paper from a weekly to a daily publication schedule, with the paper becoming the Albany Democrat effective with the change. The State Rights Democrat existed as a weekly publication for 17 years, until the paper was sold in 1882 to a new publisher, Fred Nutting, who placed his mark on the broadsheet with a new title, the Albany Weekly Democrat. It is this publication - issued continuously from 1865 into the 21st Century - to which the Albany Democrat-Herald itself traces its roots. This was a weekly called the State Rights Democrat, launched on August 1, 1865, by publisher James O'Meara. It was not until the summer of 1865 that a Democratic newspaper was able to be reestablished in Albany. Editor Malone attempted to avoid the postal ban with a remade publication called the Albany Inquirer, but that paper was likewise banned from the mails, thereby effectively terminating the publication. The Oregon Democrat was carried forward by a new publisher, Pat Malone, but the Confederate-sympathizing weekly ran into trouble with the Republican keepers of the postal system and on April 30, 1862, the paper was banned from the US Mail for its political line. įounding publisher Smith died in November 1860, on the eve of the American Civil War. A dedicated supporter of the pro-slavery Democratic Party, Smith's publication was largely devoted to fierce partisan polemics with the editor of the rival Republican publication, the Oregon Statesman, published by the indefatigable Asahel Bush in the nearby city of Salem. The first newspaper published in Albany, Oregon, county seat of Linn County, was the Oregon Democrat, launched by US Senator Delazon Smith on November 1, 1859. The Democrat-Herald covers the cities of Albany, Lebanon, and Sweet Home, Oregon, as well as the towns of Jefferson, Halsey, Tangent, Harrisburg, Brownsville, and Shedd. The two daily papers publish a joint Sunday edition, called Mid-Valley Sunday. The paper is owned by the Iowa-based Lee Enterprises, a firm which also owns the daily Corvallis Gazette-Times, published in the adjacent market of Corvallis, Oregon, as well as two weeklies, the Lebanon Express and the Philomath Express. I’d just find another program if it didn’t mean starting all over- so I’m limited to using the program on the computer alone- and hoping they fix this simple issue at some point before another 3 years passes. How is it- that going into my 3rd year using this software, that it doesn’t sync- despite it being the first feature you advertise?!Īnd never get a response, beyond the automated “we will be in touch soon” email. However- I can only use it on my desktop OR phone- bc no matter what I do- they don’t sync. I pay for both the mobile and desktop apps- I love the desktop app- it’s simple with enough features to serve the purpose. I’ve contacted support about these issues multiple times and have never had a single response. It opens- but as soon as I click anywhere on it, it crashes and closes. While the following inability to sync was is bad enough - now I can’t even open the desktop app (I have since deleted the useless mobile version). Thanks for providing us this product with no strings attached to our data, you rock!! Being a productivity snob no other app has come close to its perks in reoccurring tasks, google sync, and privacy. I have used gTasks for 6 years and to this day it’s still my favorite. If I could only have one app this would be it!!!! The letter will most likely reach it’s destination, but if the address is anything larger than a single family home, then it may not reach the intended recipient. It never fails to flabbergast me at how this little formality has lost importance. Best case scenario, the postage will be printed over the top of the address, but still be readable… but then the letter would be delayed because the OCR was unable to locate the address. Once again, the recipient’s address is not placed in the middle like it should be, and it is in the area where postage needs to be placed. Because the recipient’s address is not centered on the envelope in the above example, the post office scanners will pick up the sender’s address, and send it back where it came from, delaying delivery, and possibly wasting a stamp. When scanning, the OCR’s scan from top to bottom corner, then left to right side, then top to bottom, all aimed at the center of the envelope, where the recipient’s address should be placed. But the names have been changed to protect the innocent. The following are reproductions of formats actually used in letters we have either received or sent out from Western. Your mail will certainly still be delivered if it is incorrectly or insufficiently addressed, but it could be delayed or even ripped if not “machine friendly”. The speed with which the system travels is why it is so important to write neatly, and uniformly when addressing envelopes so the system can work smoothly. Not only would that whole system come to a halt, but it would be a massive derailment. Keeping that image in your mind, think about the letters you saw in the video whirring through the automated system, and then throw a binder clip, or a bad address into the mix anything that would cause the system to stop. Have you ever tripped going down the stairs? Hurts, doesn’t it? Now, have you ever tripped while runningdown the stairs? I haven’t (that requires being able to run down stairs which I’m not coordinated enough to do), but one would imagine that the momentum your speed carries with it would make your injuries exponentially worse… or at least you would fall a lot further. If you haven’t watched the video All Systems at Work on my “ How the Post Office Works“, you may want to take a minute to do this. Many do not understand the intricacies of the system, or how easily they can be tripped up. I think that addressing letters and other types of mail may be considered a dying art ( very broadly speaking). This type of pasta dates back to the 1500s in the northern Italian regions of Emilia-Romagna and Lombardia. Farfalle translates to “butterflies” in Italian, which is tied to the shape rather than any fancy colors. The word in Italian has nothing to do with fancy wear, however. The bow tie-wearing shape of the pasta world, farfalle is a rectangle with a pinched middle and zigzag edges. Now let’s take a look at the more traditional pasta shapes you’re likely to see at your table. Its availability was very limited in the US, but Sfoglini plans to distribute it more widely now. The new shape vesuvio, meant to resemble a volcano, takes its name from Mount Vesuvius and looks something like a twirling ribbon that is unraveling at one end. In Italy, the shape is known as cinque buchi (“five holes”). It resembles four small tubes joined together as a square. Quattrotini is a new Sfoglini pasta developed by Pashman and based on a unique shape served only once a year in a small region in Sicily. After the viral success of cascatelli, Pashman teamed up with Sfoglini again to bring two other specialty shapes to the market: quattrotini and vesuvio. The goal for creating cascatelli was to produce a noodle that holds as much sauce as possible, is easy to pick up with a fork, and has a satisfying bite. The pasta, which took three years to develop in collaboration with the pasta company Sfoglini, has a half tube in the middle, features ruffles on both edges, and is somewhat like the shape of a caterpillar that’s half curled up. The name -coined specially for the new shape- means “waterfalls” in Italian (properly cascatelle ). You’ll learn which pastas are named after butterflies and which take after thin ropes, and the next time someone refers to farfalle as “the bow tie pasta” (the nerve!), you can get a little saucy! cascatelliĬascatelli was created by Dan Pashman, a James Beard Award winner and the host of The Sporkful podcast. So grab your fork and take a bite out of what these pasta names really mean. Think you know it all? We’ll go beyond spaghetti and penne and even serve up three new shapes: cascatelli, quattrotini, and vesuvio. Each noodle shape has a name that might seem random if you’re not caught up on your Italian, but with a little help on the translation, it will all start to make more sense. The shape of an email is a square or a rectangle depending on the type of email you use.The world of pasta is filled with endless pastabilities thanks to a vast variety of shapes and sizes. The development of cylinders that could function perfectly in high temperatures and pressures enhanced several industries. The office of the president in the US is called the Oval office due to its shape as well. The ministry of defense in the United States is called the pentagon due to its building’s shape. The Red Crescent is the same humane organization, but it works in Muslim countries specifically. The Red Cross refers to a humane organization. On the other hand, there are some two-dimensional shapes that could become three-dimensional shapes as well, like a star for example! Also, abstract shapes refer to the shapes that have no regular shape where you can count the number of angles and sides. Note that some three-dimensional shapes could occur in two-dimensional forms. There are many shapes in the world – Let’s get to know their names in English and their different characteristics.
